NEWS! Waits Mill Museum Project: Report by Jones & Jones Architects
The above report was funded through a generous grant from the Sherwood Trust. These funds were "re-purposed" following last year's
tragic fire. The Kinsman Foundation has also allowed the use of remaining funds from their grant to assist in cleaning up and preserving the site. The rubble and debris has been
removed from the site and remaining elements, such as foundation walls, have been covered with earth to preserve them in the event that they can become displays in a new facility.
Several historically interesting machinery parts have been salvaged and are in storage, for possible use in a commemorative sculpture. Among these are two water turbines from the
late 1800's.
The Waitsburg Community Revitalization Committee (WCRC) which is charged by the city to take the lead role for the mill and mill
site, is now sending the new plan to agencies, foundations, and individuals who have an interest in preserving this important site and in providing an educational opportunity in
the fields of renewable energy and food production science and technology. The plan is very ambitious and will take several years for implementation, so any groups who are doing
related long range planning are being made aware of this idea.
