COUNCIL BIOS
Mayor Walt Gobel: Walt Gobel is a retired state patrol sergeant who moved from the Pasco area to Waitsburg in 2005 with his wife,
Gwen. He served with the state patrol in Olympia for 27 years before joining the Pasco School District, where he was a safety specialist for
three and a half years, and then a transportation supervisor for nine years. Gobel wants to see this Council work together as a team. He
would like to have a close working relationship with federal, state and county officials to improve infrastructure and foster economic development.
Kevin House: Kevin House has lived in Waitsburg for seven years with his wife, Christy, and their two sons. He has worked with the
McGregor Company for 14 years and is currently their service manager. House feels that his ability to cross boundaries to work together
will be a valuable asset as a council member. He hopes that he will be able to set a good example for his own children and others by serving
our community. He is a member of the Budget/Finance and Nuisance/Police/Health committee.
Karl Newell: Karl Newell moved to Waitsburg four years ago from Boardman, OR, with his wife, Marianne. He is retired and hopes that
will allow him to better serve the needs of our community as a council member. Newell would like to see more local businesses in the
downtown area, and hopes to work closely with Walla Walla County. He is a member of the Flood Prevention/Emergency Preparedness committee and the Water/Sewer/Streets committee.
Orville Branson: Orville Branson, who has previously served on City Council, is a longtime resident of Waitsburg. He and his wife, Betty,
have lived in Waitsburg for 30 years, where they raised three children and are watching their grandchildren grow up. Branson currently works
for Ag Link, Inc., which was previously Columbia County Farm Bureau. As a council member, he looks forward to having a voice in matters
of concern to residents. He is a member of the Water/Sewer/Streets committee and the Nuisance/Police/Health committee.
Scott Nettles: Scott Nettles has lived in Waitsburg all his life. He studied criminal justice at Walla Walla Community College and is an officer
at the Washington State Penitentiary. Nettles would like to focus on bringing in a large manufacturer to provide jobs in our City, and hopes he
will be an effective council member. He is a member of the Parks/Cemeteries/Pool committee and the Flood Prevention/Emergency Preparedness committee.
Marty Dunn: Marty Dunn is a former council member and mayor of the City of Waitsburg. He moved to Waitsburg from Walla Walla in
1996 and married his wife, Becky, in 1997. Their son attends Waitsburg Elementary School. Dunn works as a mechanic for the City of Walla
Walla. He is looking forward to being part of City government again and would like to see a large employer in town that would provide the
City with a bigger tax base to pay for infrastructure improvements. He is the Mayor Pro Tem and a member of the Budget/Finance committee and the Parks/Cemeteries/Pool committee.
