News!
The Mill project is moving forward. The City has set aside $2,600 and the WA State Dept. of Community Trade and Economic Development has awarded the City a grant of $19,500 towards an initial study of the structure. The state money is contingent on a local match of $7430 obtained prior to the end of June..

"The Preston-Shaffer Mill, also known as 'Wait's Mill' has been placed on the 2005 Most Endangered Historic Properties List. To see the list and read more about the Mill, visit www.wa-trust.org and click on the 'Most Endangered Historic Properties List" link, then 'Current List.'"

Project Description
The mill, more than any other structure, represents the town of Waitsburg. Even today, Waitsburg is all about raising and marketing wheat. The Waitsburg Commercial Revitalization Committee has formed a subgroup to investigate preservation of the mill, at least as a landmark and preferably for a number of possible uses.

Project Goals
Raise funds to preserve the Waitsburg Mill.
Discuss all possible steps for preservation, revitalization, and  uses.

Schedule
Funding is needed to get this project going.

Staff
The Committee is made up of five permanent members and a number of interested citizens who attend meetings and assist the Committee in various ways. The Committee presently a part of the City of Waitsburg and is organized as a nonprofit organization. Funding is collected in a separate City fund and expenses are reimbursed by action of the City Council.
