All new residents of Waitsburg must come into City Hall and fill out an application for services for water, sewer and garbage. The minimum charge for City Utilities (Water, Sewer, and Garbage) is $79.41; all
utility billings are for the month of rather than month the bill is received (i.e. February's bill is actually the cost of usage for January). There is a deposit required for water, which is refundable at
the end of one year (minus the application fee) if your bill is paid in full on or before the 20th
of each month. The amount of deposit includes a $3.00 application fee and s based on meter size. The typical meter size is ¾" which equates to $79.65 for a grand total of $82.65 Our garbage service is
through BDI. Garbage is picked up every Tuesday, regardless of holidays. Residential customers can request extra garbage cans, which are $2.08 extra per can per month, but if you do not want extra cans, you can leave
bags out as BDI has a 100% pick-up policy. If you do leave bags out, however, you have to call BDI to be put on the "extra bags" list. Their toll-free number is 1-800-642-6447. (The same rules do not apply to commercial

school was the very first public building in Waitsburg. The early emphasis on education is more evident as the town approaches the 21st century with two new educational buildings in addition to the high school.The Elementary School was torn down and rebuilt in 1995, and
the High School was extensively remodeled in 2001. Preston Hall, which was built in 1913 and is listed on the National Historic Register, was also recently restored. This building is now
used as the Middle School (Grades 6-8). Waitsburg Elementary (Grades K-5) and Waitsburg High (Grades 9-12) are located on one large parcel and are all within walking distance. The Waitsburg School District
has long had a reputation of being one of the best school districts in the area. With continued support by the Waitsburg School board towards its staff along with upgrades to its
facilities and infrastructure, the Waitsburg School District continues to put its students first in order to
ensure for each student the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and ability to learn which are fundamental to effective citizenship and personal fulfillment. Dropout rates are extremely low, and the percentage of high school graduates who attend college is well
above average. College selection is diverse and accessible. Twenty miles to the south, Walla Walla College and Whitman College
offer four-year degree programs. Walla Walla Community College
provides vocational/technical training, college credits and continuing education.
Other Area Information: The town has five churches and approximately two dozen
clubs and lodges offering a wide variety of
involvement opportunities. Social activities involving residents and area visitors are equally prevalent. The
Waitsburg Junior Livestock Show is held each year in April. "Days of Real Sport," a horse racing event, has been celebrated in town each May since 1896. Every September, the Bruce Mansion, a restored
Victorian home, provides the atmosphere for the Pioneer Fall Festival. The local Commercial Club (www.waitsburgcc.org
) sponsors a Salmon Barbecue, and the Lions put on a Buffalo Feed. Waitsburg's
location in southeastern Washington, near the Blue Mountains and Snake River, presents residents with an outdoor paradise. Hunting, hiking, fishing and water sports are moments away. A downhill ski basin is
a scenic 30 miles from town.Waitsburg has a leash law for your dogs. Licenses are issued annually at City Hall. The cost for licenses
is $10 for altered dogs and $30 for unaltered dogs. It is against the law to let your dog run loose. If you have a problem with stray dogs, call City Hall at 337-6371.

Waitsburg also has a private volunteer ambulance service, which is backed up by Walla Walla County ALS units. For emergencies, call 911, and for non-life-threatening events, call 382-2518 for ambulance
